10 Tips For Being More A More Eco-Conscious Parent

Happy Earth Month Hive!! Every April, activists, businesses, organizations and overall awesome human beings come together “to raise environmental awareness and create consciousness around the issues that affect mother nature during this time of crisis.” (NationalToday.com) This year, we are partnering with some of our favorite organizations, creators and influencers to share resources, tips & tricks and actionable steps you can take to help protect this beautiful planet of ours.

To kick it off, we wanted to start with some actionable ways that you can help reduce your footprint, minimize waste and begin a more sustainable lifestyle today. Remember, it doesn't have to be all or nothing and in the words of Anne Marie Bonneau, "We don’t need a handful of people doing zero waste perfectly. We need millions of people doing it imperfectly"

10 Tips For Being More A More Eco-Conscious Parent

1. Avoid Fast Fashion

Social media can make it seem like you NEED the latest and greatest...in every single color. Hint: you don't. Only purchase things your really need or have really had your eye on. Invest in things that will last and won’t need replacing after just a single season of use. Better yet - try thrifting or Hand-Me-Downs!

2. Replace Single Use Snack Pouches With Reusable Snack Pouches

We totally get it, sometimes you just need a quick grab-and-go option. For days you have a little more time, opt for reusable snack pouches - they’re easy to fill, clean and better for the environment. While we’re at it, replace single use ziplocs with reusable bags too!

3. Pick Paper Straws Over Plastic

We know, we know… we’re using paper straws while billionaires are flying around on private jets, but for the time being - we can only control what we can control. SO until we can control that, replace the plastic with paper. Or if you're at home, stainless steel or glass are great options too.

4. Find Refill Stations For Household Items

More and more refill stations are popping up making access way more convenient (especially if you live in a metropolitan area)! As a bonus, a lot of refill stations also have a TON of sustainable, eco-friendly and biodegradable items you can pick up for your home! Psst…start saving those glass jars now!

5. Reusable Water Bottles

If you’ve heard it once, you’ve heard it 10,000 times…it's time to ditch the single use plastic water bottles. Let’s be honest, insulated stainless steel water bottles are way better anyways - they keep your cold things cold, hot things hot and for some reason are more fun to drink out of.

6. Swap Your Trash Bags For Biodegradable Ones

Your trash is trash… let’s make it a little more eco-friendly. Try replacing your old school plastic ones with biodegradable options

7. Start Composting

Ok, composting can feel a bit… much, but there are some amazing resources to help you get started! Check out this blog from Mind Body Green for a complete beginners guides to getting started

8. Cloth Diapers Anyone?

Hear us out…cloth diapering. Before you turn up your nose (pun intended), it’s come a long way & isn’t as bad as you’d think! This article from Baby List is a great place to begin!

9. Reusable Bags For Grocery Shopping

Try to bring your reusable bags when you head to the store. We know, sometimes you forget and that’s ok! Opt for paper if you forget or better yet, keep a stash of reusable bags in your car for those “oopsies” days.

10. Buy Products Made From More Eco-Friendly Materials

Not everything you purchase needs to be sustainable, but if there are options that are similar in price, features and quality - opt for the more eco-friendly option! Our Bēbee Lightweight Stroller is a great place to start

Starting your eco-friendly parenting journey can feel overwhelming, but remember - you don’t have to start with everything all at once! Pick and choose a few things from the list above and start there. Remember, imperfect action is always better than perfect inaction. You got this!
